Budapest LL wins the Disastropedia category at the Be-prepared Hackathon

The IDEAS Science team, representing the Budapest Living Lab, competed in the Be-prepared project’s international hackathon series and won the Disastropedia category at the Budapest round. The event addresses disaster resilience and preparedness by mobilising innovators and problem-solvers. It took place in multiple countries in parallel: 13 September (Luxembourg), 18–19 September (Budapest), and 24–25 September (Limoges). IDEAS Science participated at the Budapest event.


The hackathon challenges arise from the increasing frequency and impact of disasters—both natural and human-made—calling for practical, people-centred tools and experiences that help communities prepare and respond more effectively. The Be-prepared hackathon invited creative solutions across four key categories: Disastropedia, VR-prepared, IM-prepared, and RU-prepared.

IDEAS Science entered with “Thermaform your city!”, a board game developed within the ICISK project to improve urban heat awareness and community-level decision-making. For the hackathon, the team also created a dedicated Disastropedia page presenting the game’s concept and components.

About Disastropedia: it is not a scientific platform but a public, plain-language knowledge base—similar to familiar wiki sites—designed so people of different ages, languages and accessibility needs can quickly understand and recall guidance. In crises, simple, memorable instructions improve the chance that individuals act appropriately.


At the Budapest round, the IDEAS team achieved an outstanding result, taking first place in the Disastropedia category.
