IDEAS Science Presents I-CISK Project and Budapest Urban Heat Visualization at European Heat Adaptation Community Meeting
On October 1, 2025, Györgyi BELA from IDEAS Science represented Hungary at the European Heat Adaptation Community’s monthly meeting and presented the latest results of the I-CISK project, highlighting urban heat visualization work carried out in the Budapest Living Lab. The session gathered researchers, policy experts, and project leads from across Europe to exchange ideas on managing heat risk in urban environments.
The European Heat Adaptation Community is a transnational working group dedicated to sharing knowledge, coordinating actions, and developing innovative practices for heat risk adaptation at both local and regional levels. The group comprises experts from research institutes, municipalities, civil society, and international organizations actively addressing the rising threat of heat waves in Europe. Topics at the October meeting included heat risk assessment methodologies, social vulnerability mapping and shared challenges in designing effective adaptation strategies.

During the meeting, Bela Györgyi gave an in-depth overview of the I-CISK project, focusing on recent urban heat visualization research conducted in the Budapest Living Lab. The presentation showcased state-of-the-art methodologies—like drone-based thermal imaging and sensor networks—to map heat hotspots across Budapest and inform local adaptation decisions. The Budapest experience demonstrated how integrating spatial and social data enables municipalities to identify high-risk neighborhoods, prioritize interventions, and plan green infrastructure for cooling.
IDEAS Science joined the European Heat Adaptation Community in summer 2025, becoming an integral member of the working group. Their participation strengthens transnational collaboration and knowledge exchange about climate services, urban heat risk and supports evidence-based planning and policy implementation at the city scale.
The ongoing engagement of IDEAS Science in the European Heat Adaptation Community underscores the growing relevance of collaborative, cross-border approaches for tackling urban heat. By sharing insights from the I-CISK project and the Budapest Living Lab, IDEAS Science contributes to building resilient urban environments and advancing climate adaptation in Europe’s cities.
