Los Pedroches Residents Regain Potable Water After Year-Long Ban; Survey Launched to Study Impacts
Inhabitants of Los Pedroches, home to the Spanish Living Lab, endured a year without access to potable drinking water from April 2023 to April 2024 due to prolonged drought and poor water quality. This ban was lifted following abundant rainfall in the spring of 2024, which significantly replenished water levels at the Sierra Boyera Dam, the region’s primary drinking water source.
In June 2024, the Spanish Living Lab initiated an online survey to assess the social impacts of the drinking water ban. The survey aimed to gather insights on how the restriction influenced public attitudes toward water use, evaluated the effectiveness of information dissemination during the crisis, and gauged residents’ understanding of the causes and potential future implications. The survey received 725 responses, and the team is now analyzing the data. The findings are set to be shared broadly to support better water management and crisis response strategies.
